Hotone and Amp Modelling Overview

Written by Leon Hart | 05/04/22 02:49

The music industry has seen in past four weeks an increasing interest in amplification modelling and IRs. This is largely due to a potential shortage of valves coming out of Russia. Learn more about this technology and it's benefits.

While we know that the valve amp will never be fully replaced by amplification modelling devices, they have evolved considerably over the years pushing the limits of the most discerning ears to tell the difference.

As technology advances and the tonal gap closes, more and more artists and engineers around the world embrace the latest technology advancements for reliability and super-fast functionality, and on-the-fly flexibility that is offered by these units.

The Hotone Ampero range of products are a perfect solution without compromising features, yet still falling into extremely affordable price points.

Let’s take a look at the Ampero range of products and accessories.

Ampero

Ampero amp modeler and effects processor is a game changer. Its heart pounding amp modeling and uber quality effects are powered by the new-gen CDCM HD (Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling High Definition) and F.I.R.E. (Field Impulse Response Enhancement) system, bringing you the absolute best an amp modeller and effects processor has to offer. Packaged in a cool, thin case with a 4-inch hi-def colour touch screen, Ampero delivers all the real sounds of rock past and present.

Ampero One

Ampero One represents the uncompromised, widely praised Ampero sound in a smaller case. Powered by the new-gen CDCM HD (Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling High Definition) and F.I.R.E. (Field Impulse Response Enhancement) system, Ampero One offers you all the real sounds of rock past and present in a compact format. The 4-inch hi-def colour touch screen and optimised UI provide you smoother, smarter experience.

Ampero II Stomp

Ampero II Stomp implements the brand new tri-core digital platform and independent AD/DA from the ESS Sabre Series, combined with Hotone's more advanced CDCM HD and F.I.R.E modeling technology, creating more musically dynamic vivid tones than ever before.

Ampero Press

Ampero Press is a compact, passive volume/expression 2 in 1 pedal designed not only for controlling Ampero series multi-effects, but also for controlling other musical devices (with external EXP pedal jacks) or being used as a passive volume pedal. Ampero Press boasts the DNA of the Hotone Ampero line: classic black and gold attire with a high-end textured finish. It has solid aluminum alloy casing, giving a smooth and comfortable user experience.

Ampero Control

Ampero Control is a compact, sturdy, fully programmable Bluetooth MIDI controller, that gives musicians flexible MIDI-based control via MIDI port, USB jack and Bluetooth. It features 4 footswitches, with each footswitch you can send up to 16 different MIDI messages by different actions. You can also attach expression pedals or more footswitches to your Ampero Control depending on your needs. Furthermore, a dedicated smart mobile app lets you set every detail of your Ampero Control without any confusion.

Ampero Switch

The Ampero Switch is an ultra compact, momentary footswitch controller designed not only for Ampero, but also for other devices with momentary footswitch controller support. Featuring the same aluminum casing and appearance theme design, Ampero Switch definitely matches your Ampero's vibe perfectly. Carefully selected footswitches and other components ensure comfortable switching and excellent endurance.

CDCM HD - quick overview of this ground-breaking technology

CDCM HD is 'comprehensive dynamic circuit modelling, high definition'. What that means is rather than just trying to recreate an approximation of the amplifier, Hotone have recreated the actual circuit of the actual amp in the digital world. This gives the amplifiers huge dynamic range and feel just like you're playing a real amplifier without losing all the characteristics that we look for.

As an example, dial in your favourite amp dynamically, pick hard then pick soft, wind the volume off the guitar and you will immediately notice CDCM HD come into effect.

F.I.R.E overview

Ampero also uses F.I.R.E, which stands for 'field impulse response enhancements'.

All of the cabs actually work on impulse response or commonly known IR technology, so you get a very realistic feel of the cabinets. Compare a 2x12 and 4x12 and you will instantly recognise the difference. More than a clever EQ curve, there is a lot of DSP power being used to achieve this.

Hotone have also gone one step further with the impulse responses, because it actually has an acoustic guitar simulator which is impulse response driven. This is a genius thing to do because essentially you can turn your electric guitar signal path into an approximation of an acoustic guitar. More than an EQ curve made to look like an acoustic algorithm, Hotone have done a really nice job of it. You can also add your own acoustic impulse response into the unit via the USB Port.

Ampero Processor

The Ampero range also boasts a sharc processor which deals with the DSP and also the audio engine. If you are familiar with universal audio you will know that the Apollo unit works on sharc processors. So it's a pretty powerful processor packed in the Ampero range and it has a secondary processor which is an ARM Cortex M Seven which actually deals with some more of the audio processing.
