Gefen helps Macquarie University create award-winning surgical lab with Gefen’s Video Over IP system to manage recording and replay activities of the procedures.

The Macquarie University Advanced Surgical Skills Lab was purpose-built in 2010 and uses the latest microscopy and surgical technology for human anatomy studies in the Medical and Health Sciences Faculty. With an onsite private teaching hospital, the lab is used to teach all levels of surgical technical skills and procedures in a simulated surgical environment for both student trainees and practising surgeons.

In 2016 Macquarie University commissioned a unique upgrade to their Advanced Surgical Skills Lab. The new system uses Gefen's Video and KVM over LAN along with Gefen's scalers and convertors integrating old and new technology into a flexible system accommodating the various needs of the facility and its users.

The installation has been retro-fitted to the existing facilities and has led to a more reliable experience for the users. Iain Brew, Clinical AV & IT Coordinator, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University, managed, designed, planned and installed the system using the university team in consultation with key distributors and brands, including Amber Technology and Gefen.

The project has been featured in several international publications  including Systems Integration Asia and Commercial Integrator Magazines, and has also won industry awards including:

'Best Health Care Project' for Commercial Integrator Magazine 2017 Integration Awards

‘Commercial Integration’ category for the iRidium Mobile International Awards 2017
