Sam Smith's world tour features Solid State Logic (SSL) and Radial

A number of brands distributed by Amber Technology in Australia and New Zealand have been making an appearance on legendary UK singer-songwriter Sam Smith's world tour. Smith rose to instantaneous world fame following the release of his debut album Lay Me Down in 2013. In 2018, he's enjoying a cool 2.3 million sales off the back of his second album titled The Thrill of it All and continues to smash the charts while performing on the world stage for his ongoing album titled concert tour for 2018.

Sam Smith's FOH engineer Jim Ebdon chooses SSL Live and Radial direct input equipment.  

Recently, front of house engineer for the tour Jim Ebdon spoke to Live Sound International about the delight of working with one of soul's modern day greats. Edbon has an impressive repertoire, having worked for the likes of Maroon 5, Prince and Aerosmith.

For Smith's tour,Jim chose the SSL L200 console, to effectively translate the album's feel and sound to the live arena. Read more here.

He opted for Radial for direct input equipment. "We use Avalon U5s on cello and bass, Radial JDIs on the piano, and Radial J48s on pretty much everything else." 

Monitor engineer Saul Skoutarides believes in simplicity when it comes to processing. On top of a Crane Song STC8 analog bus compressor he applies over Smith's mix to add warmth, he has also employed a pair of TC Electronic System 6000s providing eight stereo reverb engines.

Smith kicks off his Australian leg of the tour at this years' Melbourne Cup celebrations, where he'll be headlining the race day's entertainment. He will continue to tour Australia during November.
