Whilst DNH is renowned for being an industrial and commercial loudspeaker manufacturer, the company is probably best known as specialists in equipment intended for installation in harsh and hazardous environments.

DNH manufactured the world’s first explosion-protected (Ex) horn loudspeaker, H-60, as far back as 1962. This means that the loudspeaker is designed to prevent an explosion in the event of a fault within the unit. This was a robust die-cast aluminium device and, with development and innovation, DNH were able to manufacture an explosion-protected horn in a plastic material, DSP-25EEx, in 1985 (and still in production in 2021), another world first.

DNH have subsequently developed hazardous area ceiling and cabinet loudspeakers for internal installation, and even loudspeakers that have two completely separate sets of components that can be powered from the duplicated PAGA systems that are required in offshore installations. The plastic horn loudspeaker, DSP-15EEx, however remains the mainstay the DNH Ex product line with almost 200 variations of the product, including a long-flare, high output model demonstrating the DNH ability to react and adapt to many specific customer demands from this bestselling loudspeaker

In a refinery, a reliable Public Address and General Alarm (PAGA) System, is important, not just for general communication, but also for signalling evacuation in an emergency. It is vital that the equipment selected is able to provide clear and concise messages in a challenging, hazardous environment.

Commtel Networks engineered a site-wide, integrated multi-zone PAGA network, with in excess of 1,800 Zone 1 horns, Zone 2 horns and Safe Area horns installed.
